The One Room Challenge is a six-week event that happens twice a year in the DIY blogging world, and I’ve been following along for the past couple of years. This year I’m excited to be a guest participant in the event!oneroomchallenge.png

The One Room Challenge is just what it sounds like: you redo one room in your house during the given time frame. I’ve decided I would like to redo my dining area. I don’t have a formal dining room, just an area right next to my kitchen. Currently, it’s a blank slate. Not much has changed since I moved in to the house nearly eight years ago. I painted the walls when I painted the entire downstairs, hung up a curtain (which I am so ready to update, along with that light fixture) and that’s about it.

My current dining room.

Since I’ve been working on my entry for nearly a year and am close to finishing it, it seems like I’m going a little out of order by getting started on the dining room, but I really wanted to participate in the challenge. Also, I’m hoping the timeline of six weeks will push me to get it done.

My plan involves some custom furniture builds as well as some new decor purchases. There’s not a lot of space to work with, but I’m still very excited to get started. I’ve put together a mood board to show my ideas and plan for the space.

Light fixture | Curtains | Curtain rod | Shelving (I will be DIYing using these plans)

Vase | Table (I will be DIYing using these plans) | Chair | Rug | Planter

I will probably add some more color through artwork and decor that will go on the shelves and wall, but the pieces included above will be my focus as the project gets started. I will be DIYing the shelves and table, which will save a lot of money since they are both currently marked around $1,400 a piece. I think I can build both for less than $300 combined.

I’ve always been a little intimidated to tile anything. I love the way tile looks, but it seemed complicated. Tiling the fireplace surround seemed like the perfect project to tile for the first time. Fireplace Progress My fireplace and built-in wall have been quite the process so far! If you’d like to check out some […]
